The eighth edition of the hybrid conference NanoOstrava 2023 took place from 15 to 18 May 2023. The event was traditionally organised by the Nanotechnology Centre (CNT) CEET VSB-TUO. For the first time in its history, the venue was the industrial setting of the Lower Vítkovice area (DOV) in Ostrava.

The scientific programme focused on issues surrounding nanotechnology, nano- and advanced materials, and their applications in medicine, industry, and environmental protection. The topics were divided into three main themes:

  • Materials and Technology for Energy and Transportation
  • Materials and Technology for Environment, Healthcare and Safety
  • Advanced Materials Characterisation

The event attracted more than 100 participants, including prominent domestic and international scientists, representatives of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology of VSB-TUO, as well as students. The conference was also notably open to the local region, invitations were extended to three Ostrava secondary schools (Akademik Heyrovský Secondary Industrial School of Chemistry, Matiční Grammar School, and Wichterle Grammar School), with two students from Wichterle Grammar School even presenting their Students' Professional Activities (SOČ) projects at the event.

Among the key speakers was world-renowned expert Paolo Fornasiero from the University of Trieste, who delivered the plenary lecture on sustainable chemistry. His presentation was followed by Radek Zbořil from CNT CEET VSB-TUO. Other prominent speakers included theoretical chemist and Czech Head laureate Pavel Hobza and distinguished scientist Martin Pumera.
