The fifth edition of the international conference NanoOstrava 2017 took place from 23 to 25 May 2017 at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava. The event was organised by the Nanotechnology Centre of VSB-TUO in cooperation with the Institute of Geonics of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The scientific programme was divided into six conference sessions focusing on the following key areas:

  • Technology and characterisation of nanomaterials
  • Terahertz technology and photovoltaics
  • Biosynthesis inspired by natural processes
  • Nanotechnology in medicine

The conference attracted over a hundred scientists and students, as well as representatives of dozens of nanotechnology companies. In addition to participants from the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries (Poland, Slovakia, Germany), experts from Turkey, France, Russia, China, India, Japan, the USA, and Australia attended the event.

Among the key invited speakers was Prof. Stephen Mahler from the University of Queensland, Australia, who presented research on monoclonal antibodies for biological therapy and antibody-targeted nanomedicine in the fight against cancer. Other invited international speakers included Assoc. Prof. Jan Rusz from Uppsala University in Sweden, Prof. László P. Biró from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Hatem Akbulut from Sakarya University in Turkey, and Dr. Emilien Peytavit from the University of Lille in France. The domestic scientific community was represented by Dr. Antonín Fejfar from the Institute of Physics of the CAS, who spoke on advances in photovoltaics and terahertz spectroscopy, and Assoc. Prof. Grażyna Simha Martynková from VSB-TUO, who presented research on the development of new polymer materials using graphite layers.
