The third international biennial conference Nano Ostrava 2013 took place from 17 to 20 June 2013 in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The event was organised by the Nanotechnology Centre at VSB–Technical University of Ostrava in cooperation with the Institute of Geonics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the Czech Chemical Society and the Czech National Clay Group.
The conference brought together scientists, researchers, students and industry representatives to discuss recent advances in nanomaterials and nanotechnology. The scientific programme covered a broad range of topics, including the synthesis and characterisation of nanomaterials, nanostructured materials, energy applications, environmental nanotechnology, nanomedicine, advanced functional materials, clay minerals and zeolites.
The programme featured invited lectures by internationally recognised scientists, including Jana Madejová (Slovak Academy of Sciences, Slovakia), who addressed near-infrared spectroscopy of organoclays; Xiaofeng Xie (Tsinghua University, China), who focused on nanomaterials for vanadium redox flow batteries; and Ewa Mijowska (West Pomeranian University of Technology, Poland), who presented research on magnetic silica nanotubes for drug release and hyperthermia. Other invited speakers included Stuart Tessemer (Michigan State University, USA), discussing quantum levels of semiconductor impurities; Bogdan Dragnea (Indiana University, USA), presenting nanoparticle-templated self-assembly of virus protein shells; and Michael Cada (Dalhousie University, Canada), focusing on single-photon nanophotonics.
In addition to invited lectures, the conference included thematic scientific sessions and poster presentations, encouraging interdisciplinary discussions, international collaboration and knowledge exchange between researchers and industry professionals.
